But He'll Show Ceramics
First Hobby Show Entrant Is Painter
In the era when riding the "Old Mill" and visitng "Hilarity Hall" at Summit Beach Park were the acme of a youngster's enjoyment, A.W. Kennedy was playing a big part in the picture.
The first entrant in this year's Hobby Show for Oldsters is the decorator who designed those fascinating scenes in the dim interiors of those side shows and also the Shooting Gallery at the park.
Kennedy, 65, of 56 W. Burns Ave., also has decorated many churches in the Akron district.
The hobby Kennedy is going to demonstrate Sept. 16, 17 and 19 at the show sponsored by United Community Council and Women's Auxilliary Summit County Medical Society is quite different from his scenic work.
He's going to show the entire process of making ceramics, from designing and making the mold to the finished products.
"I never did ceramics until three years ago when I took a course at the Falls Arts Center," explains the former painter and decorator.
Today his home and basement are filled with molded ware and Mrs. Kennedy steps gingerly over attractive centerpieces he's fashioning from driftwood and a ceramic bowl or two.
"I still have a small job afternoons painting voting booths around Summit County," adds Kennedy.
Members of Mrs. Edwin L. Mollin's hobby show committee are urging other 65-year-olds and over to send in entry blanks or write to the United Community Counci, 90 N. Prospect St., for intstructions.
"Practically any hobby can be demonstrated. The show will be held at O'Neil's auditorium," Mrs. Mollin said. "If you were an entrant before, you may submit anything new you have made this year," she added.
